On the heels of an announcement that jazz legend Wynton Marsalis would be headlining the festival along with guitarist John Pizzarelli, event chairman David Smith revealed that Davina and the Vagabonds will make the trek from Minnesota to downtown Elkhart for the band’s second appearance at the festival. The band played multiple shows at last year’s festival and packed the house at the Lerner Theatre’s Crystal Ballroom.
Clarinetist Dave Bennett will also return to the festival this summer. Bennett kicked off the event last year with a special concert with the Elkhart Municipal Band at the Lerner Theatre.
Trumpet player and vocalist Bria Skonberg will be making her first appearance as solo artist at the festival. Skonberg performed in Elkhart as part of the The Mighty Aphrodite Jazz Band six years ago, Smith recalled.
“They were a hit in 2007, but we’re excited to have Bria come back with her own group,” Smith said.
Early bird prices for jazz and patron passes will be available until March 15. Until then, standard jazz passes are $110, which includes entry to the festival’s venues. Standard patron passes are $190, which includes access to the venues with preferred seating and invitations to exclusive patron-only events.
Premium jazz and patron passes are limited. They include the benefits of standard passes plus tickets to see Marsalis with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on June 22 at the Lerner Theatre. Early bird premium jazz passes with main floor seating at the theater are $150, and premium patron passes featuring orchestra seating are $245.
Early bird daily tickets, called session passes, for the festival will go on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 10. Prices will be announced soon. The Lerner Theatre is selling tickets at its box office and online at www.thelerner.com. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 800-294-8223.
