Goshen High School student places first in Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra Concerto competition

Eight area high school students participated in the competition for cash prizes and the opportunity to perform with the Elkhart County Symphony Orchestra (ECSO).
Benjamin Wiebe, a senior at Goshen High School and cellist, was awarded gold and will be the featured soloist in ECSO’s A Taste of the Tropics concert March 3 at Learner Theater. Wiebe will perform Concerto No. 1, Opus 49 by Dmitri Kabalevsky. Tickets are available through Learner Theater Box Office.
Carol Weirich, a junior at Central High School, was awarded silver for her performance of Piano Concerto No. 3, Movement 1 by Dimitri Kabalevsky on piano.
Sean Weber, a senior at Goshen High School, was awarded bronze for his performance of Concerto for Trombone, Movement 1 by Launy Gröndahl on trombone.
Other contestants included Alexis Barton, a junior violinist at Goshen High School; Anton Gillespie, a junior french horn player at John Adams High School; Sadie Gustafson-Zook, a senior violinist at Bethany Christian School; Liam Maher, a junior violinist at Saint Joseph High School; and Peter Paetkau, a senior violinist at Goshen High School.
