Council agenda features votes on Communtiy Center referendum, redistricting
Bruce Stahly, the director of the project, has been presenting Goshen Community Center Inc.’s plan to local organizations and the city council, where many questions were raised about its viability at the Jan. 2 meeting.
In the end, several proponents of the Community Center asked the council to approve the referendum and allow residents to make the final decision on the Center’s fate.
Council’s busy evening will also include another discussion on establishing the city’s council districts.
The issue first came to the council at the Dec. 4 meeting, where the original proposal was passed on first reading, but then left open to ongoing discussion.
Former councilman Tom Stump had submitted a proposal of his own at the Dec. 27 meeting, but withdrew it that same night. Mayor Allan Kauffman had said that a proposal must come under a population deviation of 16.44 percent — the deviation for the legal department’s original proposal.
Another proposal has since been submitted by council Republicans for the council’s review. The Republicans’ plan split some precincts, but in doing so, established a population deviation to 14.66 percent.
