MONTICELLO — John Calvin Morgan, 88, of Monticello, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Monticello.

He was born May 14, 1924, in Clarksburg to the late Frank and Mary (Wilson) Morgan. On Oct. 6, 1950, he married June Finley at her parent’s farm in Freeland Park. She survives.

John had lived in the Monticello community since 1986, coming from Elkhart.

He had served in the U. S. Army as a major in the 114th Airborne Division.

John then returned to the states and attended Purdue University for his undergraduate studies and received his Master’s degree in education. John then moved to Elkhart, where he was a teacher and guidance counselor. He retired in 1986 as the director of Elkhart Area Career Center.

John was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Elkhart and Monticello. He was a 60-plus year member of the Masonic Lodge.

John will always be remembered for wearing a bow tie.

Surviving are wife June F. Morgan of Monticello; son James M. (Sue Thur) Morgan of Alameda, Calif.; daughter Jane (Steve) Malashock of Houston; and brother Loyd (Martha) Morgan of Clarksburg.

John he was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary (Wilson) Morgan; and brothers George and Layman Morgan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. Masonic services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Celebration of life services with full military rites will be at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.

Burial will be private for the family at Boswell Cemetery in Boswell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
