Elkhart man convicted of criminal confinement, attempted aggravated battery
Robert King, 60, was found guilty by a jury after they heard testimony from his family.
According to a release from Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill, King’s family told the jury that King consumed numerous beers one night and woke his wife at knife point, demanding to know where $60 of the family’s money had gone.
The family said King then sprayed his wife with lighter fluid and attempted to set her on fire, before King, armed with a handgun, threatened to shoot his son and prevented his wife from leaving their apartment.
King’s daughter, who was 14 years old at the time, heard her mother’s screams and called police from her bedroom closet, the release said. King was taken into custody shortly after.
King’s sentencing has been set for 9 a.m., Feb. 17, 2013, at the Elkhart County Security Center. He faces 80 years in prison.
