NOTRE DAME - MRI test results confirmed that senior defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore tore the ACL in his right knee in Monday’s national championship, Notre Dame announced Thursday.

Lewis-Moore went down with what head coach Brian Kelly called a “serious knee injury” in the second quarter of Notre Dame’s 42-14 loss to Alabama. He came out of the locker room in the second half on crutches.

According to Notre Dame, Lewis-Moore is expected to have surgery in the next 10-14 days.

With the NFL Draft looming in late April and Lewis-Moore’s recovery time projected to be four to six months, the four-year starter’s future may be unclear.

Lewis-Moore reacted to the results on Twitter, writing: “Haha well it’s official! But seriously I can’t stop thanking everyone for their support! Can’t let this injury stop me from moving forward!”
