Major action: Enlarged the Consolidated River Race/U.S. 33 Economic Development Area to add areas including the Ninth Street Corridor, which has been targeted for future redevelopment, among other areas.

Other actions

• Passed three resolutions directing the distribution of economic development area tax proceeds for 2013. The three areas are the Southeast Economic Development, River Race/U.S. 33 Economic Development and Plymouth Avenue Economic Development areas.

The resolutions noted that the assessed value of the areas will not exceed the amount of the assessed value needed to produce the property taxes necessary to make principal and interest payments on bonds and that there will be no excess assessed value of the taxable property for the areas to be allocated to the respective taxing units.

• Approved submission of applications for Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding. Civil City Engineer Mary Cripe asked commissioners to choose between the Northwest Bike Trail along Bashor Road between C.R. 17 and the commercial area along U.S. 33 North and the Ninth Street Trail from College Avenue to Purl Street.

Commissioners suggested the Northwest Bike Trail take priority since it has been an issue for some time and timing for the Ninth Street Corridor project is still uncertain.

Commissioners discussed the body's options pertaining to three commission-owned properties at 705 New York St., 513 S. Third St. and 211 E. Madison Street but took no action.
