The 4 minute, 42 second segment reported by ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi aired during the network’s “College Gameday” show before the Notre Dame-Alabama game for the BCS championship.
The story detailed how Grewe was “adopted” by the Notre Dame team just as the teen was undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma in his right leg, including a rotationplasty surgery that removed part of his leg. In interviews with Grewe, his parents, Randy and Michelle, and Notre Dame players and staff such as coach Brian Kelly, Mike Golic Jr., Robby Toma and Grant Patton, the piece detailed the special bond the Grewes and Notre Dame shared.
