ELKHART — The Elkhart City Council approved a rezoning Monday night for MOR/Ryde International that will assist the company with expansion plans.

The council voted to support a recommendation from the plan commission to rezone several parcels along Moyer Avenue from residential to manufacturing. The M2 classification is considered light industrial.

The zoning change was sought by MOR/Ryde, which is planning a 36,000-square-foot expansion, according to Eric Trotter, the city planner.

The rezoning involved only a portion of the company’s expansion plans.

The company designs and manufactures rubber suspension systems and ride enhancement products for a wide variety of industries, including the recreational van industry.

Fourth District Councilman Ron Troyer applauded the company’s plan, calling Moor/Ryde an excellent corporate neighbor.

In other matters, the council chose Troyer to serve as council president. He replaces Tonda Hines, who held that role for the past year. Dave Osborne was chosen to serve as vice president.

The council will meet Monday for its next meeting instead of Jan. 21 because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
