ELKHART — Spartan Motors Inc., the parent company of Utilimaster, has announced the sale of the majority of the Wakarusa Utilimaster facility to Forest River Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway company.

The transaction comes as Utilimaster prepares to vacate the Wakarusa campus and shift operations to its new plant in Bristol.

“The sale of the Wakarusa facility represents an important step in the transition of Utilimaster’s operations to Bristol,” said John Sztykiel, President and CEO of Spartan, in a press release. “As we finalize the move and ramp up production, we expect the new, modern plant to support Utilimaster’s long-term growth and enable us to achieve our potential in Delivery and Service Vehicles.”

The current Utilimaster campus in Wakarusa is home to 16 buildings. The release did not specify how much of the campus Forest River acquired.
