Three Rivers woman falls asleep while driving, injured in crash
UNION, Mich. — A Three Rivers, Mich., woman was hospitalized Saturday night after falling asleep at the wheel of her vehicle and crashing east of Union, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash happened at 7:50 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 12 and Vera Drive in Porter Township, police said.
Ginnie Wallace, 40, was going eastbound when she fell asleep, causing her vehicle to leave the road and hit a generator and pole. Wallace was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where she was treated for unspecified injuries and released. Two of Wallace’s children, 9 and 7 years old, were in the vehicle but not injured, according to police.
The children were released into the custody of other family members.
