ELKHART — Brian Dickerson’s appointment to the Elkhart City Council on Thursday night through a Republican caucus was indeed historic.

At the age of 23, Dickerson joins Jim Perron as the youngest person to sit on the city council.

Perron, who was also appointed by a caucus, joined the council in 1979 and then was elected mayor in 1983.

Dickerson edged out Adam Bujalski, 30, in the final round by a 12-10 vote by precinct committee members. Ten people sought the seat.

Dickerson replaces Kyle Hannon as one of three at-large members.

The council meets at 7 p.m. Monday.
