Group seeks nominations for community awards

The People’s History of Elkhart is accepting nominations for community leadership awards.

The event, “Honoring King’s Legacy in Elkhart Today: Creating the Beloved Community,” will recognize local efforts from the past year that celebrate activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision. The celebration will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 in the gymnasium at the Historic Roosevelt Center, 215 E. Indiana Ave. in Elkhart.

Honors to be presented will include the “Drum Major for Justice” lifetime achievement award as well as the “Jericho Road” award to a group working for transformative change in the community.
