With snow on the ground and school temporarily out, this winter recess is shaping up to be ideal for sledding. Over the course of this week, cold temperatures will take over the forecast and there is a chance for more snow on Wednesday.

AccuWeather reports that there is a potential for the coldest air in a couple of years for the Northeast and possibly the Midwest during this week. Due to this air and potential for snow, temperatures are expected to be below normal for this time of year.

Abshire Park, 1302 E. Lincoln Ave., Goshen, gives sledders the chance to bring their own devices or rent a tube. Tubes are $2.14 Monday through Friday, $6.42 on weekends. For more information, call the Goshen Park Office at 534-2901.

Ferrettie/Baugo Creek Park, 50651 Laurel Road, Osceola, is not yet offering sledding. The park needs at least 8 inches of snow to allow people to sled. For more information, call 674-9765.

McNaughton Park, 701 Arcade Ave., Elkhart, has a sledding hill located near the former Trinity Lutheran school and church. Those planning to sled will need to bring their own. For more information, call the City of Elkhart Parks and Recreation at 295-7275.

Ox Bow Park, 23033 C.R. 45, Goshen, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during January and is open New Year’s Day. Cost is $2 per car and those planning to sled must bring their own. For more information, call Elkhart County Parks and Recreation at 535-6458 or visit www.elkhartcountyparks.org/properties_locations/ox_bow_park.htm.
