Service on the South Shore train that runs from South Bend to Chicago has been halted today, Dec. 29, following a traffic accident in Gary, according to the commuter train service.

Service was expected to be suspended for most of Saturday after a truck spilled a load of steel on to the tracks.

The accident did not involve any commuter trains, according to a statement from South Shore.

The truck was traveling on Interstate 90 east of the Gary Metro Station

South Shore described the damage to the tracks and overhead wires as extensive.
