People’s Forum: Answer to gun violence is culture change
Posted: 12/28/2012 at 1:15 am

While we are deeply saddened by the tragedy in Connecticut and are searching for ways to prevent future occurrences, passing more laws restricting guns will do about as much good in stopping gun-related crime as prohibition stopped people from drinking or current drug laws have stopped drug use.

We’ve taken God and the Ten Commandments out of our schools and other public places. Then we have saturated our children with violent TV, violent movies and violent video games until they are completely desensitized and wonder why they grow up and commit violent acts.

Rather than depending on our lawmakers to pass more restrictive and ineffective laws, why don’t we as individual Americans get busy and start working to change our current culture of sex and violence?
