Jan. 17, 1937 - Dec. 24, 2012

ELKHART — Patricia A. “Pat” Pontius, 75, of Elkhart, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Valley View.

She was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Goshen to Frank and Fern (Ganger) Shaffer. She married Richard J. Pontius on Jan. 18, 1954, in Bristol. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1991, in Elkhart.

Surviving are a daughter, Gloria (Ronald) Trosper; three sons, Frank (Teresa) Pontius, Steve (Connie) Pontius and David (Rachel) Pontius, all of Elkhart; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Lee (John) Lancaster of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Cameron Lee Trosper.

Pat was employed for 15 years by the Baugo Community Schools, working in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 308. Pat enjoyed playing bingo, doing crafts, shopping with her sister and playing cards. She enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and was a big fan of John Wayne and Dean Martin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday Dec. 28, 2012, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the funeral home. Dave Waugh and Davis Webster will preside. Burial will be private at a later date in Osceola Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Heart Association or United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
