Children outside Elkhart house led to arrest for possesion of meth, precursors

Kevin Upham, 29, of 53768 Sunwood Drive, was arrested for possession of precursors, neglect of a dependent and possession of methamphetamine. Former charges have not been filed.
Police had been called on “a welfare check” to the residence around 3 p.m., after a passerby saw a 3-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl walking around the house and near the road, said Capt. Jim Bradberry, public information officer for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Upham was booked at the Elkhart County Jail without bond.
The children were taken into protective custody by the Department of Child Services.
Over the last week, there have been three other methamphetamine-related arrests.
On Dec. 20, Corey Holden, 26, of 118 Power Drive, Mishawaka, was arrested for possession of precursors, possession of methamphetamine and dealing in methamphetamine.
Nichole McLachlan, 22, of 17666 C.R. 2, Bristol, was arrested for dealing in methamphetamine and possession of a handgun without a license on Dec. 21.
Also arrested on Dec. 21 was Joseph Morrison, 23, of Elkhart, for dealing in methamphetamine.
