UNION — A woman was taken to the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle Monday evening in downtown Union, Mich.

According to a press release by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Franklin Strawser, 68, of Constantine, was driving east on U.S. 12 near Union Road around 6:30 p.m. when he struck Lori Wilkes, 42, of Jones. Wilkes was walking in the roadway, according to the press release. Porter Township and Osolo Township EMS units responded to the accident.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where she was listed as in serious but stable condition.

The accident remains under investigation.
