NILES, Mich. — Richard L. “Dick” Evans Sr., 65, of Niles, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Ind.

Dick’s life began on June 13, 1947, in Mishawaka, Ind., the son of Ed and Betty (Dunkleberger) Evans.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Thrasher on Aug. 6, 1966, in Florence, Ala. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 2012.

He was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse Church for many years. He was an avid walleye fisherman. He was a member of the Edwardsburg Conservation Club and United Auto Workers Union.

His loving family includes his children, Dawn (Steve) Welsh of South Bend, Richard “Scooter” (Glenna Revis) Evans of Dowagiac; grandchildren Steven (Heather), Kayla, Charity and Cassidy; great-granddaughter Raeghan; brothers John (Pat) Evans of Arizona and Gary (Debbie) Sheaks of Edwardsburg; and a sister-in-law, Ellen (Tom) Rodewald of Elkhart, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His family will gather with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Dowagiac. His service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, with Senior Pastor David Helmuth and Pastor Casey Helmuth officiating.
