What will it take for Americans to reject the insanity of assault weapons being sold to anyone but the military? Ownership of assault weapons is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Assault weapons should not be available to terrorists, be they domestic or international.

Now that mostly white children in a wealthy suburban school are being killed, does that bring the problem closer to home? If this had happened in an inner-city school, many folks would sadly say, “Oh, that just happens with those people.”

In many states the Ku Klux Klan was sued when hate crimes were perpetuated against blacks. This almost bankrupted the KKK. When we have mass shootings with assault weapons, why don’t we sue the NRA or assault weapon manufacturers?

Bankrupting these purveyors of death and destruction would be poetic justice. How about targeting by our votes the politicians who have sold out to the NRA?

Republican right-wing apologist Ann Coulter on FOX News suggests a solution to the problem. She says the solution is more people carrying concealed weapons. What’s next? First graders carrying semi-automatics in their backpacks?

I personally know of at least one paranoid person who is packing even when she goes to church. She fears the government. I fear her.

Oh, and here comes the Westboro Baptist Church to picket the Sandy Hook Elementary funerals. Just when you think the right wing nuts can’t get more stupid, they don’t disappoint us.
