ELKHART — Dave Miller, Elkhart Mayor from 2000 through 2007, announced Tuesday his intention of running to fill the unexpired term of city councilman Kyle Hannon.

Hannon was promoted to President of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce and announced his resignation from the council last Friday.

Since Hannon is a Republican, the Republican county chairman will schedule a caucus of the precinct committee people representing the city of Elkhart who will select the person to fill Hannon’s seat until the next city election in 2015.

Miller served as an at-large city councilman from 1995 until his election to the mayor’s office where he served two terms. Miller did not seek a third term, but instead went to work for Horizon Transport in Wakarusa as vice president of sales and marketing. Miller left Horizon last year and has since been doing business consulting and contract work to the RV industry.
