According to officials at the scene, the driver of the car was headed east on C.R. 6 when he hit Joseph Fournier, 19, of Elkhart. Fournier, who was alert at the scene, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital to be treated for internal injuries and minor bleeding.
Douglas Buckles, 41, of Elkhart, who was driving the vehicle, said Fournier had been walking in the middle of the right eastbound lane but did not see him until the impact. Buckles said Fournier rolled over the windshield of the vehicle and off the back.
Buckles suffered minor injuries to his hand in the crash and was treated at the scene.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department did not issue any citations.
