ELKHART — Elkhart firefighter Dave Richter and his bride, Heather Labrum, chose Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, to be their wedding day. The 12/12/12 date was “unique and different,” according to the groom, and that is why they chose it.

Other aspects of their wedding were just as unique. The couple, along with the pastor, climbed into the bucket of one of the ladder trucks at Central Station and hovered 100 feet above family and guests as they exchanged vows.

Richter's fellow firefighters decorated spans of white hose with lights that edged the runner that created an aisle to the truck. Following the ceremony the couple had a full reception at the fire house.
