The annual Shipshewana Ice Festival, featuring large ice sculptures carved by the Michiana Ice Carvers Association, will be from Dec. 27 to 29.

Carvers will begin at 9 a.m. Dec. 27 and work throughout the day using a combined 30,000 or more pounds of ice for 40 sculptures in shapes ranging from animals and toys to popular people and nostalgic food. At 6 p.m., the Westview senior girls will compete in a new festival event, the Ice Festival Pageant, in the Davis Mercantile Theater.

Ten master carvers will compete in a carving contest for cash prizes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 28 near the south entrance of the Davis Mercantile on Harrison Street, downtown.

The Chili Cook-off will be in the Davis Mercantile parking lot from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dec. 29. Interested contestants may call the event sponsor at (260) 463-6175 for more information. Public may attend and taste, roast marshmallows and build a snowman.
