GOSHEN — The Goshen Theater, originally known as the Jefferson Theater, has been a landmark of downtown Goshen for more than a century. A meeting Thursday morning will unveil information about the theater’s current condition and possibilities for its future.

The Goshen Theater Taskforce has issued a study of the theater through the last year. The study, according to Gina Leichty of Downtown Goshen Inc., evaluated the theater’s present condition, assessed needed renovations and proposed uses to preserve the historic landmark.

People can hear about the Goshen Theater study findings at a meeting Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the theater, 216 S. Main St. Leichty said people should register to attend the presentation by visiting www.formstack.com/forms/cityonthego-goshentheater.

According to the Goshen Theater’s website, the theater was built in 1905 as the Jefferson Theater, which burnt down in 1906. The Jefferson reopened in 1907 and changed to the Goshen Theater in 1948 when, after a renovation, the manufacturer realized there wasn’t room for all the letters of the original name on the marquee.
