ELKHART — Elkhart-based Atwood Mobile Products was one of nine companies from across the state who announced plans for investment and new jobs today, Dec. 11, in Indianapolis.

Atwood will consolidate manufacturing operations from Michigan and distribution and warehousing operations from Tennessee and other areas to Elkhart County, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

The moves will add up to 132 jobs in Elkhart County by 2015 to the 368 employees already working for the company at their four sites in the county, according to the state agency.

Atwood will invest $5.9 million into the consolidation.

Atwood will receive up to $700,000 in tax credits and up to $120,000 in training grants, according to the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

In a written announcement, Tim Stephens, president of Atwood, said, “Atwood has seen tremendous growth the last few years, particularly in our recreational vehicle and specialty vehicle markets. The state of Indiana has been very supportive of Atwood’s plans and we look forward to expanding our business in a state that has shown in recent years it is serious about attracting and keeping top-notch businesses.”

In the same announcement, Gov. Mitch Daniels said, “We’ve added jobs at nearly twice the national average for the past three years, but we have seen a significant surge of new interest in the past several months. The best holiday gifts the state could receive are these jobs but today’s bundle is not the last for this year. Stand by for more.”

Atwood is joined by Angie’s List of Indianapolis; BidPal Inc. of Indianapolis; Brunswick Fort Wayne Operations; Cafe Valley Inc. in Marion; ExactTarget, which is expanding in Indianapolis; Inventure Foods, which is expanding its Bluffton operations; Mitsubishi Engine North America in Franklin; and Moorehead Communications, with plans to increase its Indiana operations.

In all, the plans announced today will bring 2,552 jobs to the state over the next few years.
