GOSHEN — Dennis Sharkey ended his 12-year tenure with the Elkhart County Council this weekend.

Sharkey began serving on the county council in early 2001.

“This was a very, very difficult decision,” he said Saturday. “However, I thought 12 years was enough.”

Tom Stump will leave his spot on the Goshen City Council to fill Sharkey’s seat in January. Stump will be replaced on the city council by Brett Weddell.

Sharkey said he plans to go to Florida after he officially retires but will keep in touch with the members of county council.
