Dowagiac man found guilty of child sexually abusive activity
After a two-and-a-half day trial, a Cass County jury found James Heidenreich, 57, guilty of child sexually abusive activity, eavesdropping, possession of child sexually abusive material, manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug house and five counts of felony firearm possession. The jury also found him guilty of possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
According to a press release from the Cass County Prosecutor office, Heidenreich faces up to 20 years in prison on his conviction of possession of child sexually abusive materials, in addition to a mandatory two years as a result of felony firearm convictions.
According to trial testimony, it was discovered through a disk that Heidenreich had videotaped a 17-year-old as she undressed.
Also found was footage of him setting a hidden camera in a child’s bedroom. The person who made the discovery reported what she found to Michigan State Police, who arrested him and served a search warrant.
During the search, police found several firearms readily accessible in the home, as well as marijuana plants in a pole barn behind the house.
Heidenreich’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2013.
