One wounded man, Sean Smith, was taken to Memorial Hospital in stable condition, according to Cpl. Michael Bennett of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
Bennett said from the information officers had already collected, it appeared that Smith allowed three men into his apartment at 52076 Brookstream Circle, where he was shot in the face. The three men then fled the scene, though it is unknown if they were in a vehicle or on foot.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Elkhart City Police and Osolo Township Fire department responded to the call. As of about 9 p.m., police officers were still on the scene with K-9 units looking for suspects, but no further information is available about the suspects at this time.
