Last month the LaSalle Council, Boy Scouts of America honored Rex Martin as the Elkhart County Distinguished Citizen of 2012. On Nov. 14, the LaSalle Council recognized Martin at a Distinguished Citizen luncheon for his numerous contributions to the community and business world.

A former Boy Scout, Martin serves as chairman and CEO of NIBCO Inc. and is a board member of the Elkhart County Community Foundation, American Red Cross — Elkhart County Chapter and First Source Corp.

Martin is also the lead director of the University of Notre Dame Engineering School Advisory Council. He and his wife, Alice A. Martin, are founding chairs of the Rex and Alice A. Martin Foundation that is responsible for NIBCO Water & Ice Park, Martin Skate Park and the NIBCO Therapeutic Indoor Horseback-Riding Arena.

Scouts from Cleveland Elementary School chartered by Elkhart County Conservation Club performed the opening ceremony at the Elcona Country Club luncheon. Those Scouts are among the 8,400 youth from the Michiana area who are involved with the LaSalle Council, Boy Scouts of America.
