NOTRE DAME - After an electrifying start, Notre Dame has cooled off against Baylor, the defending national champions.

No. 5 Notre Dame trails the No. 3 Bears 33-27 at the half in a rematch of last season’s finalists.

Though Notre Dame forced 11 turnovers, grabbed six offensive boards and held Baylor’s 6-foot-8 center Brittney Griner to four points in the first 18 minutes of the game, the Irish shot only 31.4 percent from the field. ND’s Skylar Diggins, who averages 14 points per game, is scoreless at the half.

The Irish led by as many as nine points midway through the first half, but Baylor capitalized on Notre Dame’s shooting struggles and embarked on a 22-7 run to lead by six at the half.

Freshman Jewell Loyd leads the Irish with 15 points, the only Notre Dame player with double-digit points and a 50-percent shooting percentage.
