LITTLE ROCK, Ark — Bob Diaco of Notre Dame has been named winner of the Broyles Award as the nation’s top college football assistant.

The Fighting Irish defensive coordinator helped sculpt a defense which has allowed the fewest touchdowns in the country and is sixth overall in total defense. ND ranks No.1 in fewest points allowed followed by Alabama.

The Irish and Crimson Tide will meet Jan. 7 in the BCS championship game.

Other finalists for the honor were Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason, Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.

The Broyles Award is named after Frank Broyles, the legendary coach at Arkansas.
