Family & Children’s Center, Inc. and Oaklawn Psychiatric Center, Inc. Boards of Directors recently approved the combination of FCC’s youth residential treatment programs of The Children’s Campus in Mishawaka with those of Oaklawn. Pending regulatory approval, Oaklawn will assume management and operations of The Children’s Campus on Jan. 1, 2013, with plans to relocate existing youth residential programs in Elkhart County to The Children’s Campus by June 2013. As a result of changes in philosophy and funding from Indiana’s Department of Child Services, fewer youth are being placed in residential care facilities. “The leadership of Family & Children’s Center and The Children’s Campus has worked diligently throughout the past 18 months to explore every viable option to continue to serve our mission,” said Jack Gregory, board chairman of Family & Children’s Center, Inc. “Our two agencies have a rich legacy with over 180 combined years of serving our community’s most vulnerable children. Combining the talents and resources of our two organizations will strengthen our ability to sustain our commitment to healing the wounds of traumatized children well into the future.” The organizations’ executive leadership determined land and facilities in Mishawaka to be the best suited to meet the needs of youth requiring highly specialized residential care for client populations. “We anticipate that many of our staff will retain their current roles so the children and families we serve should experience little, if any, change in their treatment plan or delivery of services,” said Bruce L. Greenberg, President and CEO of Family & Children’s Center.
