ELKHART — The United Way of Elkhart County now offers more ways to find help in the community.

In addition to the 211 help line, people can now search through an online database or print off the complete list of local resources.

“We don’t want anyone out there struggling who needs help,” said Darren Bickel, vice president of community investment for United Way of Elkhart County.

By going to www.connect2help.org, people can search for nearby resources, including what local organizations can provide clothes or food, where to seek counseling or medical services or even what museums or parks are in the area. People can also narrow down services to veterans’ services, resources for those with disabilities, child services and more.

People who would prefer a hard copy of resources’ information can click Publications on connect2help.org and chose Rainbow Book, the title of the resource guide.

Along with the two new ways to find resources, people can also call 211 to talk with a information and referral specialist about the caller’s needs and recommend next steps.

The United Way has helped provide a telephone help line in some form since the early 1970s. Bickel said that these additional resource finders are a part of the United Way’s “commitment to making sure Elkhart County citizens have the ability to get help in a quick and efficient manner.”
