Elkhart man in serious condition following Sunday crash

ELKHART — An Elkhart man remains in serious condition this morning, Nov. 26, following a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning on the west side of Elkhart.

Steven Briskie, 39, was unconscious and taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for injuries to the head following the accident, which happened around 1:30 a.m.

According to a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Briskie was driving a Ford Explorer west on C.R. 16, east of County Line Road when he drifted off to the north side of the road. He tried over-correcting and drove across C.R. 16, hitting a tree head-on on the south side of the road. Briskie was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The incident is under further investigation at this time, according to the report.
