Self-serve shoppers didnt realize Kroger was closed
GOSHEN — Some shoppers at a local grocery store tried to take self-serve to a new level Thursday night.
Police officers were sent to Kroger, 209 Chicago Ave., around 10:45 p.m. Thursday night and found about a dozen people attempting to purchase items through a self-checkout system with no employees on site.
According to a spokesperson for the Goshen Police Department, it appeared that the store’s locking mechanism had not completely engaged. There were no signs of forced entry and no one was attempting to steal from the business, police said.
A Kroger manager was called to secure all entrances until the business reopened.
