One dead, three injuried in Benton Township crash
A Jeep traveling westbound on C.R. 50 carrying three passengers collided head on into a moped driven by Jeremy Yates around 6:47 p.m.
The moped was broken into multiple pieces and Yates was ejected off the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep sustained damage to the entire vehicle.
Melissa Yoder, 28, of Ligonier, suffered upper back pain. William Perry, 20, of Goshen, suffered major lacerations on his head and a head injury. Randell Purtell, 20, of Milford, sustained head and back injuries. All three passengers were air lifted to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the driver of the Jeep has not been released, pending investigation.
The crash is under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff Department’s Crash Investigation Team.
