ELKHART COUNTY — A total of four people were injured in two separate crashes that occurred on S.R. 120 Tuesday afternoon.

Three people were injured in the first crash that happened at 1:05 p.m.

According to a release from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Danny J. Thursby, 69, of Elkhart, was heading west on S.R. 120 when his vehicle veered off the north side of the road.

Thursby’s vehicle first struck a mailbox and then a vehicle carrying Spencer Y. Zhuang, 44, and Xiaoxia Zhuang, 35, both of Elkhart, and a child passenger, which was sitting in a driveway facing south and waiting to turn onto S.R. 120.

Thursby’s vehicle continued west off the side of S.R. 120 before stopping in a tree line. He was treated for chest pain.

Spencer Zhuang was treated for head and shoulder pain and Xiaoxia Zhuang complained of hip pain. The child in the vehicle was not injured.

No citations were issued at the scene.

The second crash occurred at 2:35 p.m. as Aleida Franco, 28, of Elkhart, was heading east on S.R. 120, west of C.R. 17.

A second vehicle, driven by Darren Ross, 38, of Union, Mich., was stopped heading west on S.R. 120 waiting to turn south into a private drive.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, Ross failed to yield the right-of-way to Franco and caused the collision.

Neither Ross or Franco was injured, but one of Franco’s passengers, Martha Franco, 51, of Elkhart, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of neck pain.

The sheriff’s department cited Ross for failure to yield the right-of-way.
