GOSHEN — Thousands of pancakes and 960 pounds of sausage were made and served Nov. 16 at the Goshen Salvation Army.

For the 49th year, the Goshen agency raised money by selling pancakes. Volunteers from the Elkhart County Exchange Club started making pancakes before 6 a.m. and continued through 7 p.m. A total of 960 pounds of sausage was also cooked by volunteers, according to John Huber, one of the volunteer organizers.

The dining room was crowded early in the morning and volunteers served food and drinks to hungry diners.

By the end of the evening, Major Allen Hanton said 1,975 people had been served.

Last year, the meal fed 2,200 people and raised about $50,000, according to Hanton.

Last year, the agency served 10,463 people in need.
