Feds report 5th fungal meningitis death

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its website Friday to include a total of 55 cases of the rare disease in Indiana.
State Department of Health spokesman Ken Severson says he doesnít have any information about the fifth death.
State officials say clinics in six Indiana cities received tainted steroids traced to the New England Compounding Center. The Framingham, Mass., company is linked to a multistate outbreak thatís sickened 480 people and caused 33 deaths.
The Indiana clinics that received tainted medication are located in South Bend, Elkhart, Columbus, Evansville, Fort Wayne and Terre Haute.
Elkhart County has had 30 documented cases of the infection since the outbreak. Earlier reports of 32 Elkhart County cases also counted patients receiving treatment here who were from other counties.
Three deaths from the infection have also been linked to Elkhart County.
