Apple insurance deadline approaching

GOSHEN — Apple growers who want to buy or change their insurance policy have to do so by Nov. 20, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency.

“Crop insurance protects growers from many different kinds of risk,” said Brian Frieden, director of the Springfield, Ill. regional office. “For example, apple and peach producers can be protected from losses resulting from frost, drought or summer storms,” he said.

Producers need to contact insurance agents, Frieden said, and a list is available at www.rma.usda.gov/tools/agent.html.
