ELKHART — Students in a Jimtown High School business club spent time this weekend living in cardboard boxes to raise awareness, money and supplies for the homeless in the community.

Kyndra Fowler, Jimtown senior and president of the high school’s DECA business club, explained that the students were in the school’s parking lot with the cardboard boxes from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. About a dozen or so spent the night, while there were more during the daytime hours, she said.

People could drop off clothes, food, money and other supplies for Faith Mission in Elkhart. The more than $500 that the group raised will specifically go to help homeless veterans through Faith Mission, Fowler said.

This was the first year for the event but Fowler said she hopes it becomes an annual event at Jimtown High School.

“We wanted to help out our local homeless as much as we could,” she said.
