NOTRE DAME — The Notre Dame football team is 10-0 for the first time since 1993, and finds itself at No. 3 in the BCS rankings and two college football polls.

Kansas State (10-0) moved into the top spot of the BCS rankings with Oregon (10-0) at No. 2. The Irish, 21-6 winners over Boston College on Saturday, were No. 3 with former No. 1 Alabama slipping to No. 4 in the BCS rankings. Alabama suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling to Texas A&M.

Oregon was No. 1 and Kansas State No. 2 in the Associated Press poll while the Irish were No. 3 and Alabama No. 4. Georgia is No. 5 while Texas A&M jumped to No. 9 in the AP poll.

In the USA Today coaches’ poll, the Irish are ranked No. 3, behind Oregon and Kansas State.

The new BCS standings have the Wildcats (.9674) first and the Ducks (.9497) second. Notre Dame (.9396) isn’t too far behind, but most likely in need of a loss by Oregon or Kansas State to reach the title game on Jan. 7 in Miami.

As for Alabama’s run at three championships in four seasons, and the Southeastern Conference’s string of six straight BCS titles, both need help to continue.

Notre Dame’s opponent in two weeks, Southern California, is ranked No. 21 in both polls.
