ELKHART — A 23-month-old child was taken into protective custody by Indiana Department of Child Services after its parents were found manufacturing meth inside of their home on the south side of Elkhart Sunday night, according to Elkhart County police

Acting on a tip, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department officers went to a house in the 23000 block of Sunnyside Avenue around 9:30 p.m., according to a police report.

Police found and arrested Christopher Sawyer, 24, and Lauren Semmerling, 21, on preliminary felony charges of manufacturing meth, possession of hypodermic needles and neglect of a dependent. They also face possible misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of precursors to manufacture meth.

Their child was taken to the hospital to be checked.
