ELKHART — Friends of a man who was killed in September are planning a benefit for his children.

The event will be from noon to midnight Nov. 24 at VFW Post 88, 1519 Bristol St., Elkhart.

Mark Miller, 42, of Dunlap, went missing Sept. 7. According to his family, he was last seen in his tattoo shop in Dunlap. His body was found a week and a half later in a barrel that was floating on the St. Joseph River near the Six Span Bridge.

Since Miller’s body was found, the community has shown support for his family by giving donations and holding memorial ceremonies.

Tracey Cohee, a close friend of the Miller family, gathered some friends as volunteers to organize the event.

There will be food and music from bands and a disc jockey. There will be different events throughout the day, including a grill-off and activities for children. Other events are planned for after 6 p.m., like a beer-pong tournament. Three tattoo artists have volunteered to paint tattoos.

All proceeds from the event will go to Miller’s children.

Tickets are available at Matzke Florist on Main Street, Ink Hound Apparel at Concord Mall and Air Equipment Sales and Service at 500 Baldwin St. For more information call Cohee at 226-0743.

Donations can be given through any First Source Bank to the Mark Miller Benefit Fund.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION

The Elhart County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating the case but no arrests have been made.

Cohee said the family has been in close contact with police, but they have not recieved much information.

Police searched a house on Dorris Street in Bristol on Oct. 23 in reference to Miller’s death, but no arrests were made and no suspects have been named.
