ELKHART — As the American Red Cross relief operation continues on the East Coast, the executive director of the Elkhart County Red Cross, Frank Connolly, returned home from New York on Sunday.

Connolly was managing sheltering throughout the state of New York, including New York City, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. He flew out in advance of the storm two weeks ago. Connolly is one of 47 volunteers from the northern Indiana chapters, which include Elkhart, Kosciusko, St. Joseph and LaGrange counties, who have deployed to help with the Red Cross relief efforts on the East Coast.
