Elkhart man accused of attempted murder may go to trial

Jose Alejandro, 21, of 1613 Locust St. Elkhart, appeared for a hearing at Elkhart County Circuit Court Thursday morning.

Alejandro is charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony, as well as a criminal gang enhancement. Alejandro was arrested for shooting and injuring a 19-year-old man in May this year. He was arrested July 4. The probable cause affidavit also stated that Alejandro was a member of a criminal gang at the time the crime happened.

Judge Terry Shewmaker changed the trial date to Jan. 28, 2013 at Alejandro’s request. Chief deputy prosecutor Vicky Becker said as of Thursday the intentions of both parties is to go forward to trial.
