More than 20 people express interest in local dog

Lucky, a poodle mix, was the companion of Pauline Burema, a southern Michigan woman who was the first person in Indiana to die in the recent fungal meningitis outbreak. Lucky has been staying at Burema’s grandson’s house in Union ever since Burema was admitted to the hospital, but the family can no longer take care of him.
The family put out a call for help on Tuesday, hoping to find a loving home for Lucky. The emails have flooded in, according to Burema’s daughter Carol Snyder. So far, they have received more than 20 responses from people in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio interested in learning more about Burema’s dog. Snyder said the family hopes to make a decision about Lucky’s new home soon.
