Police responded to a bomb threat at the Elkhart County Courts Building in Elkhart and the Elkhart County Courthouse in Goshen on Friday morning. The call came in between 8:42 and 8:47 a.m., according to dispatch.

Lt. Tom Love of the Elkhart Police Department said the bomb threat was vague, so police responded to both buildings.

Capt. Jim Bradberry, public information officer with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, said someone called 911 and told dispatch there was a bomb outside the courthouse. Police inspected in and outside the building and did not find any suspicious objects.

Both court buildings were on lockdown for about 20 minutes, but police gave the all-clear for both between 9:45 and 10 a.m.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, a person who makes false reports of placing an explosive device in a building or place of assembly commits a Class D felony, which could lead to a sentence of three years in prison.
